Rockstar Games released a statement with Sony saying that some cases of overheating problems when playing L.A. Noire on the PS3 is caused neither by L.A. Noire or the firmware update.

The previous statement the studio released on their forums (since retracted) saying that the cause of L.A. Noire overheating and red-lighting PlayStation 3 consoles is due to Sony's recent firmware update.

A similar issue has also been seen on some Xbox 360 consoles, causing the game to lock-up. To that, Rockstar has recommended the clearing of the console's cache. Rockstar Games has also said that any technical issues should be sorted out over Rockstar Games' support or on Sony's PS3 support pages.

My run with L.A. Noire so far hasn't been met with any overheating problems on my PS3, but I backed up my save games just in case.
