Alliance of Valiant Arms Media Preview
Written by Shaun Ang Friday, 30 September 2011 11:43

Geekbot recently attended the media preview for A.V.A, or Alliance of Valiant Arms, which will have a closed beta test in November. Personally, I have tried this game a year ago in Korea, and I can say that the gameplay and graphics went slightly up a notch. As my hand and eye coordination is not as fast as the younger Korean gamers, I got trashed pretty badly, nevermind the excuses that I didn’t have my own mouse and keyboard with me. Being a hardcore FPS gamer, I’m always in search of a game that can replace the aging but always fun to play Counter-Strike 1.6. A.V.A might just be the game to fill up my time and provide some entertainment.
The nice people from Asiasoft have arranged the preview at Coliseum, filled with photo-taking sessions with the A.V.A cosplayers, as well as organizing a mini A.V.A match between the gamemasters and the media. As I mentioned that I’ve tried this game before, I had no problems jumping right into the action. A.V.A uses the Unreal 3 engine, so there should be not much complains in the graphics or gameplay.

Gameplay was fast-paced, and it took a few deaths before I would be able to choose the sniper class, as it’s VERY different from Counter-Strike. I found out quickly that the maps are not camper friendly, as everything is in motion and the kills are coming hard and fast. Pretty soon though, I was picking off the opponents with mysniper rifle, and it felt good!
There are 3 classes to choose from, the Point Man (Submachine Guns), the Rifle Man (Assault Weapons) and the Sniper (Long Distance Rifles). The game is free-to-play, but there will be options to purchase in-game items using in-game cash earned in the game. One would have to purchase enough in-game cash if there’s a need to get repairs or an upgrade of weapon parts quickly. Every respawn grants you an option to choose a different class, with weapons at the ready.

I only had the chance to play an Escort map, one in which my teammates and I are to escort a tank which slowly moves across the map from one point to another. This is one of the special game modes that I love, as it forces you to work as a team. I had fun sniping at the opponents, the NRF, while randomly shouting at my teammates to take down the guy with the rocket launcher, which was the only thing that could stop the tank in its tracks. One thing I noted, the weapons are still of the same variety as the one I tested a year ago, perhaps the in-game purchase menu would have more to offer.
I would recommend this game to any fellow gamers who are tired of the current batch of online FPS games right now. With great graphics and smooth and interesting gameplay, what’s not to love?
